Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin took part in a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council under the Government of the Russian Federation to combat the spread of CORONAVIRUS infection. This was reported in the press service of the regional government.
Mikhail Mishustin announced the emergence of the Omicron strain in the Russian regions, but noted that at the moment the increase in the incidence has not led to a sharp increase in the number of hospitalized patients.
“So far, we are not seeing the same proportion of severe cases of the disease as in the situation with Delta. Nevertheless, it is not completely clear how quickly the new strain will spread. We must be prepared for any development of events,” Mikhail Mishustin said.
The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, said that additional sanitary measures had been taken in the region due to the risk of infection with a new strain of the virus. In particular, an observatory with 160 beds will be deployed to organize monitoring of people arriving from countries with a risk of spreading a new strain of coronavirus. To provide medical care to patients with suspected omicron strain, three medical organizations with 85 beds have been identified. In addition, there are 445 observation beds in the region, which will be used if necessary.
“Now we are seeing a certain increase in the incidence, but this has not yet affected the work of the healthcare system too much. Preparatory measures have already been taken. We are ready to deploy about 10 thousand beds to help patients with coronavirus. 2,000 are provided with oxygen, 550 ventilators are working. At the same time, we maintain a high reserve of beds - about 28% today," said Gleb Nikitin.
