The Japanese authorities, as part of a new plan to strengthen the safety of nuclear power plants, may place Patriot PAC-3 anti-aircraft missile systems next to them. This was reported by the Nikkei newspaper, citing sources.
According to the interlocutors of the newspaper, Japan is considering several options for ensuring the safety of its nuclear power plants, including the deployment of the Patriot PAC-3 missile system not far from the stations.
These measures are planned to be included in the national security strategy of the country, and the reason for this was the situation around nuclear facilities in Ukraine, which causes serious concern for the Japanese government, the sources specify.
The Patriot PAC-3 anti-aircraft missile system is one of the latest modernization options for the famous Patriot air defense system, designed to intercept tactical ballistic and cruise missile warheads.
The complex is equipped with 16 ERINT anti-missiles - four anti-missiles in each SAM container. The air defense system is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 45 km at an altitude of up to 20 km
