Slovakia is highly dependent on Russian gas and cannot afford to stop deliveries, the minister explained.85% of the gas supplied to the country comes from RUSSIA

Gas supplies from Russia to Slovakia should not stop, the country can pay for raw materials in rubles. This was stated by Minister of Economy Richard Sulik during a discussion on the RTVS channel.

“The flow of gas must not stop. That's why I say maybe it's too pragmatic for some. If there is a condition to pay in rubles, then let's pay in rubles,” he said (cited by Cas).

Sulik recalled that Slovakia buys about 85% of the gas it consumes from Russia. The country should diversify supplies, but this process will take several years, and Slovakia has six weeks to resolve the payment issue - the next payment must be made before May 20. The work of industrial enterprises depends on gas.

Latvia announced the suspension of Russian gas supplies to the Baltics Business

On March 31, Prime Minister Eduard Heger said that Slovakia's agreement to buy gas for rubles would only increase its dependence on Russia. “It will already be not only energy, but also financial [dependence],” Heger said. At the same time, he pointed to the doubts of the Slovak authorities about the reliability of gas supplies from Russia.
