In three years, the area of ​​fulfillment centers has increased by a record 12 times. And there are prerequisites to believe that growth will continue. CORE.XP explains,

At the end of 2022, the area of ​​commissioned fulfillment centers reached 3.7 million square meters. m*. Thus, in 2022 alone, the area of ​​fulfillment centers increased by 54% compared to 2021. In total, over the period from 2018 to 2022, it increased by 12 times (plus 3.4 million sq. m to the value of 2018).

Fulfillment center is a special format of online retailers' facilities that provide centralized execution of all logistics operations at the facility itself (goods acceptance, assembly, packaging, order sorting, etc.).

A significant jump here occurred after 2020: the covid-19 pandemic accelerated the development of the Russian e-commerce market. The online retail players needed more and more new warehouse space. At the same time, the storage capacity of no other segment has grown at such a rate: the average annual increase in the total area of ​​online retailers over the past four years has amounted to 85%.

At the same time, if back in 2020 there were five competing e-commerce platforms on the market, now two companies with the most developed logistics infrastructure are clearly in the lead - they occupy 74% of the area of ​​all fulfillment centers.
