Experts reported on the "masking" properties of new strains of coronavirus

“The virus mutated in such a way that it began to “mask” as a viral seasonal infection,” Timakov said.

According to the infectious disease specialist, now the main symptoms are a runny nose, sore throat, and intestinal disorders.

DIRECTOR of the Institute for HEALTH Economics at the Higher School of Economics Larisa Popovich, in a conversation with RBC, said that the delta strain with its mutations has less effect on the NERVOUS SYSTEM and does not penetrate the brain as actively as previous strains.

“Perhaps it has a greater affinity for cells in the gastrointestinal tract. Indeed, all mutations that are significant for changing the properties of the virus have their own characteristics. Accordingly, one can expect that the symptoms will change significantly, ”explained Popovich.

Earlier, scientists at King's College London reported that patients with coronavirus infection have changed the main symptoms of the disease. According to the results of the study, new strains of coronavirus, in particular the delta variant (the so-called Indian strain), have changed the clinical picture of COVID-19. Now the most common symptoms that patients complain about are headache, runny nose and sore throat.
