Regional producers of food and goods can be significantly inferior in quality to imported competitors, experts say. After the proposal of the regional Ministry of Industry and Trade and the center "My Business" to provide support to local producers, start selling products in the region's retail chains.
In a number of cases, regional products are uncompetitive or much more expensive than well-known brands, business participants say. The proposed measure of support from the regional Ministry of Industry and Trade and the My Business center, when departments take over the organization of negotiations, as well as the interaction of individual entrepreneurs and companies with networkers, according to experts, can lead to low-quality goods on the shelves of retail chains, but against the backdrop of sanctions , which led to the violation of already created logical chains, this is still a chance for local and domestic manufacturers.
“The main risk that I see here is that now the shelves of large chain supermarkets can be filled with goods of not very good quality,” said Elena Gilyazova, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Perm Territory.
The Chairman of the Public Council under the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises of the Perm Territory adds that at the moment there are a sufficient number of local producers in the region, but with all the desire, not everyone will be able to reach a new level. Not everyone has the volumes that are needed, and not everyone is ready to comply with certain rules. However, the expert emphasizes that in the current situation it may be that large chains will nevertheless reduce requirements for a number of commodity items.
“As for the release of producers, farmers on the shelves, this topic was in the Perm Territory at one time, within the framework of “Buy Perm”, the topic was promoted by the SME corporation and the entire directorate was in agriculture. Whoever wanted, he entered a long time ago (to the wide market - approx.), who can ensure, first, the constancy of supplies, the quality of the goods, ”explained Dmitry Salnikov, Chairman of ACCOR Perm Territory.
Small agricultural producers will be able to secure a place on the shelf only if there is uninterrupted supply, which is quite difficult for small market players. Another important factor in the release of goods in large networks is the price. The larger the production, the lower the cost of production, and in small businesses there is often very low labor productivity, there are no high technologies, so the cost is not competitive with large manufacturers.
One of the Perm suppliers, which has been present on the market since 2014, says that the idea is a failure: it is unprofitable for business, the markup in networks is more than 50%. According to him, we, as suppliers, do not earn money, in order to resolve the issue, it is necessary to go to the federal level, the entrepreneur sums up.
