The HEAD of the Novosibirsk scientific center "Vector" Rinat Maksyutov was fired due to violations of the law on combating corruption and conflict of interest, according to a statement from Rospotrebnadzor received by RBC.
Vector continues its activities in accordance with the plans for scientific work and the tasks set,” the department noted.
Rospotrebnadzor added that they had taken measures “to suppress the revealed facts” of violations of the legislation on corruption.
The dismissal of Maksyutov was previously reported by sources of the Kommersant-Sibir and Interfax publications. According to them, the CEO was removed from his post due to the loss of confidence, one of the reasons was "failure to take measures to resolve and prevent conflicts of interest."
Maksyutov has headed Vector since September 2016. This is one of the largest scientific virological and biotechnological centers in RUSSIA, it studies pathogens of especially dangerous infections and develops drugs . In particular, Vector created the EpiVacCorona CORONAVIRUS vaccine, one of four developed in Russia to fight COVID- 19 (besides it, it is Sputnik V with a single-component version of Sputnik Light and KoviVac).
A group of St. Petersburg researchers from the European University questioned the effectiveness of EpiVacCorona. In January last year, they published a preprint of a study on the effectiveness of Russian coronavirus vaccines. "EpiVakKorona" in it turned out to be the only drug whose effectiveness could not be confirmed: scientists considered it negative. Vector stated that the results of this study cannot be trusted due to the small sample size.
