EU foreign ministers have decided to allocate €500 million in military aid to Kyiv, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said at a press conference after the EU Council meeting in Brussels.

“We have decided to allocate an additional €500 million for arms supplies. Now the amount of assistance from the European Peace Fund reaches €2 billion,” Borrell said, adding that this includes tanks, artillery and other types of weapons.

At the same time, the HEAD of European diplomacy noted that military assistance from the European Peace Fund "is of a gratuitous nature", unlike other types of arms supplies to Kyiv.

On May 13, the German newspaper Spiegel, citing sources, wrote that the G7 countries planned to provide financial support to Ukraine for €30 billion. This amount was calculated based on the fact that hostilities in Ukraine would end within a year, writes Spiegel. Financial assistance will be provided to Kyiv in the form of loans and grants, the Ukrainian side will not have to return the entire amount.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal reported that from the end of February to May, Kyiv received more than $12 billion in military aid.

The Kremlin said that the supply of arms to Ukraine and other countries threatened the security of the continent and led to instability.
