He specified that Guterres wants to discuss with the Russian and Ukrainian leaders "urgent steps aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine."

At the end of March, Guterres pointed to signs of diplomatic progress on several key issues in resolving the situation around Ukraine. In his opinion, the parties should immediately intensify "a serious negotiation process." He urged not to delay the search for compromise solutions.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said on April 20 that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to resolve the situation are ongoing. However, Kyiv participants "refuse to take a constructive approach" on priority issues, she said.
