The Central Election Commission assesses as a high probability of multi-day voting in the elections to the State Duma, said its chairman Ella Pamfilova, TASS reports.
“Of course, the likelihood that we will make a decision to vote for more than one day is very high,” the HEAD of the CEC said. She stressed that the decision will be made based on the epidemiological safety of voters.
Pamfilova also ruled out the "direct dependence" of the three-day vote and the possibility of an increase in fraud. “It depends on many factors: how this [multi-day voting] is organized, how observers, [election] commissions will work, and so on,” she said.
Elections to the State Duma of the eighth convocation are scheduled for September 19, 2021 on a single voting day. Residents of seven regions will be able to vote online: Moscow, Sevastopol, as well as Rostov, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Murmansk and Yaroslavl regions.
In 2020, the voting on amendments to the Russian Constitution became multi-day, it lasted from June 25 to July 1. The CEC explained that this measure was taken in the context of the covid-19 epidemic and was aimed at reducing the risk of voter infection.
