Chevron management near San Francisco evacuated about 500 union workers from the refinery site hours before the expiration of the contract and the start of a large-scale strike. it is reported by REUTERS.

"The union's demands have gone beyond what the company considers reasonable and beyond the national standard negotiation agreement," said Chevron spokesman Tyler Kruzic.

Workers from the United Steelworkers union were busted out of the plant on Sunday evening and replaced with non-union employees.

The current labor contract at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, California expired on February 1. No new agreement was reached, and the union twice voted to reject the company's proposals.
