The new program will take a similar approach to partnering with private companies to accelerate the development of vaccines and treatments.

As White House coronavirus coordinator Ashish Jha said, Project Next Gen will focus on three goals:

the creation of long-acting monoclonal antibodies (produced by immune cells that originate from one plasma cell precursor. -); accelerating the development of vaccines that provide mucosal immunity ; accelerating efforts to develop pancoronavirus vaccines to protect against new variants of SARS-CoV-2, as well as other coronaviruses.

Some of the laboratory work is already underway and the authorities are looking for potential private partners, said Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response to the US Department of HEALTH Don O'Connell.
